[id# 40]New banner, works and changes.Posted on: 2008-06-29 [Comment]
After about a year of having Celine's silhouette up, I've replaced her with a screencap from the movie-musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It was long overdue for a change. I also added the "Sweeney Todd" subcategory to the Fan Fiction section.

New in Poetry > Original Poetry:
Angel -- Written an hour after the death of my beloved cat, Angel. May she rest in peace.
Demon In Me -- Poem about suffering an eating disorder.

New in Fan Fiction > Sweeney Todd:
Dangerous Game -- Nellie Lovett reflects on her relationship with the demon barber. Song taken from the 1994 concept album of the Jekyll & Hyde musical.

And, last but not least, I've updated the "Author info" page, and removed dead links from the "Downloads" and "Listed" pages. I also have removed the "Latest Works" page, as it's not really necessary with my listing the new additions in my update blog.

I had intended to update on the Scent/Darkness fanfic series during the holiday. Unfortunately, my Windows operating system suffered a major crash over Christmas, which locked me out of my system. I spent the past several days moving my files over to an external drive using DOS commands.

I now have a Linux based operating system, Kubuntu. However, the external drive is not currently "mounted" in the OS as a writeable drive, so I cannot work on the fanfic or anything else I have stored there. It will likely take me a while longer before I have the kind of access I need to the drive to make changes to the text and document files that hold the fanfic.

I fully intend to have "Brothers In Darkness" completed early in the New Year, and another step made in the Scent/Darkness series.

I removed several dead links from the Listed and Downloads pages. Unfortunately, most of the dead links belonged to Storyline-based sites that no longer exist. Websites that use the Storyline PHP program seem to be a dying breed, and eFiction is now as popular as Storyline used to be ages ago. Oh, how times have changed.

On the upside, I now have my first bona fide affiliate: Ashley at Crystal Emotions.

I'll admit I haven't added anything new in the past couple of weeks, but I had added three works in July and early August without mentioning them. So, without further ado, they're finally getting a little "face time".

New in Fan Fiction > Real Person Fic:
We'll Always Have Cooties -- A sci-fi farce based on some of the personalities that show up at the Anti-Madonna board.

New in Poetry > Original Poetry:
This Much Is True -- A poem I started 3 years ago that I finally completed. Much angst about love here.
Why? -- A little early-morning introspection in freeform.

[id# 36]Blog / Message Board.Posted on: 2007-06-15 [Comment]
I finally managed to break up the Update Blog into several pages (each page shows 5 entries, going from newest to oldest). I also added a message board, so visitors can comment on the site and engage in general writing discussion. And maybe even post some of their own work, too.

Signing up is required to post on the board, and it does not currently propagate to other parts of the site. So reviews will still require entering your name and email address. However, integrating the board more fully with the site is indeed on my list of things to do. But that won't be for awhile yet.

All told, this is what's on my "to do" list on the functional side of this website:

* Fully integrate standard userpanel with admin control panel
* Integrate message board with main site, combining both databases
* Make the snarl of code created by IO Design less buggy, easier to read and easier to adapt
* Make database tables and display for links listings and author info pages, and updated by a user friendly page in control panel
* Add a "charts" page for most viewed, highest rated, most reviewed and overall popular works

Basically, I'm planning to make my single-author modified version of Storyline into a new downloadable php script that doesn't require any knowledge of php to configure or update. It's going to take several more months though, before I can make order out of the presently chaotic scripting.

Oh, and I also split the Storyline 1.8 download info and link from the Author Info page into a separate page of its own called, fittingly, Downloads. My single-author version will also be available for download on that page once the aforementioned modifications are complete.
